Trump demanded his name go on the historic memorial or he will allow it to rot. He warned that renovation “cannot begin until such time as the D.C. Circuit rules on the Board’s approved name.”

He insisted that if the court rules against him, “the Reconstruction and the Renovation of The Kennedy Center will not take place.”

This is classic authoritarian blackmail. Trump wants the public to believe he saved the venue by claiming “17 Million Dollars, raised by President Trump, has been put into The Kennedy Center account to keep it afloat.”

Now, he is using federal resources to punish anyone standing in his way - to the extent of tearing the center down.

Sworn Witness Testimony Exposes Physical Destruction

Bridget Kennedy-Bailey, a staff member for the legal team of Representative Joyce Beatty, who is suing Trump to stop this exact extortion, exposed the reality in a sworn court declaration filed on September 16, 2026.

Kennedy-Bailey arrived at the Center and found that the automatic sliding doors “did not open for me because it appeared to be locked”. A security officer told her, “No, we’re closed.”

Security specialist Shateik Jones confirmed the building was closed and “stated that he was told to keep the doors locked.” Jones confirmed to Kennedy-Bailey that “the order came from ‘higher-ups.’”

Soon after, workers installed heavy barricades. Kennedy-Bailey observed “black metal gates had been placed in front of the building” and that they “blocked all the staircases leading to the building.”

The situation turned destructive within minutes. Kennedy-Bailey watched a forklift carrying fencing drive toward the north side of the complex.

She testified under penalty of perjury: “I saw the forklift run into and hit the pillars on the building several times.”

A public relations staffer told Kennedy-Bailey “The building is closed for these repairs, and that staff are not allowed in without a hard hat.” When asked if any actual work was happening, he could only guess that it “seems like it.”

Kennedy-Bailey noted that “workers were waiting for more gates to arrive to close [the perimeter]” while “forklifts bringing more gates to the front of the building” erected construction-style barriers.

“I think you’re incompetent,” Donald Trump told her. Rep. Joyce Beatty did not miss a beat. “I know you’re incompetent,” she fired back.

That was how it started. Beatty, a Democrat from Ohio, had just beaten Trump in federal court, and she walked into a Kennedy Center board meeting where he was calling in by phone as chairman.

She wasn’t there to be lectured or bullied.

“The Most Unprofessional Thing”

Beatty laid it out plainly during a Tuesday appearance on MS Now. “We were in court right before we went into the board meeting. So they opened up the board meeting by informing the board that we had, again, Beatty v. Trump. Beatty had been victorious. And he went into a tantrum,” she said.

“Let me just make it simple: it was the most unprofessional thing that I’ve ever witnessed or been a part of. He went into name-calling from everything.”

She refused to sit and take it.

“I looked to the chair… and I said, ‘Are we really going to do this? This is unprofessional.’ But I was not going to let him call me awful things.”

Then came the threat.

“He said he was going to hold me responsible if something fell out of the ceiling and killed someone. And I told him, I said, ‘You’re already killing people. We’re at war. We also have people who are starving. You’re doing this.’”

“More Bankruptcies Than Anybody in the Room”

Trump apparently tried to lecture her about his genius as a builder. It backfired spectacularly.

As Beatty explained:

“He wanted to talk about how great he was with developing, and he didn’t know anything about me, but I had never done anything; this was the biggest thing I had done. So I reminded him that he had more bankruptcies than anybody in the room.”

“I really went there because I was not going to let him,” she continued.

“He was there in his role as chairman of the board. I was not going to let him bully me, intimidate me, and the facts stand for themselves.”

The context here matters. Beatty sued after Trump-aligned board members tried to rebrand the institution as the “Trump-Kennedy Center” during a meeting where she was repeatedly muted and blocked from speaking.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ruled in her favor, blocking the renaming and ordering Trump’s name stripped from the building, its grounds, website, and trademark applications.

The Ransom Note

Trump has bragged about “getting” the center $257 million. Beatty immediately shredded that claim.

“Last time I checked, it was the taxpayers’ money that we voted on out of our congressional budget. The Congress gave them $257 million that is still sitting there for renovation.”

“He was unhinged. He was hollering and screaming, and he was saying things like, ‘You’re holding up everything. You’re an obstructionist.’ And I said, ‘You’re holding up the country.’”

Pressed on whether he “had his faculties together,” she told the panel: “This is a man that has us at war. People are dying. This is a man that wants to rename countries and so many other things. He has no regard for what’s at stake.”

Co-host Symone Sanders-Townsend named the real game. Trump, she said, is trying to “arrest the culture.” Beatty instantly agreed: “This is a cultural capture of the Kennedy Center, and he’s throwing a temper tantrum to do it.”

Donald Trump and his right-wing loyalists are running an aggressive psychological intimidation campaign designed to terrorize progressive voters into staying home this November.

MAGA operatives are actively stoking horrifying scenarios of armed Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and federal troops stalking polling precincts on Election Day.

Neither Trump nor his officials, including DOJ chief Todd Blanche, have explicitly promised troops at the polls, but they have pointedly refused to rule it out.

DHS chief Markwayne Mullin recently mused that federal officers “could be deployed to polling places if there was ‘a threat’ or they were ‘serving a warrant,’” while adding DHS had no such plans.

One of the country’s most seasoned election experts says the whole thing is a bluff, and he is not being subtle about it.

The Voting Expert Calling It Out

David Becker knows this terrain cold. He spent more than 25 years in elections, including a stint as a senior attorney in the Justice Department’s Voting Section under both Clinton and George W. Bush, and he now runs the Center for Election Innovation & Research, a nonpartisan nonprofit.

Becker made his case twice in one week. He hosted a September 9 webinar, part of his group’s “Trust Elections” series, walking through 20 months of federal attacks on voting and explaining why almost none of them landed.

Two days later, at a September 11 press briefing, a reporter asked him directly whether agents might show up at the polls. His answer left no daylight.

“This is not going to happen. ICE and troops will not be at the polls, period,” he said.

Why the Law Makes It Impossible

Becker’s confidence rests on statute, not optimism. Federal law, 18 U.S.C. 592, flatly bars armed men at polling places.

“As soon as there is an armed individual at a polling place, there will be a court action,” he said, noting that jurisdictions are already prepared to get any deployment blocked.

Becker was even blunter during his webinar days earlier. “Other people are mincing words about this because they’re not sure what the administration is going to do; I am sure there will not be ICE or troops at the polls,” he told attendees.

“You don’t have anything to worry about regarding that.”

Here is the part that should worry Trump. Voters have become a moving target. Forty-seven states now offer some form of early in-person voting, and three-quarters allow mail voting without an excuse.

You cannot intimidate people at the polls when you have no clue when or where they will vote.

Then comes the twist Trump created. His relentless, false attacks on mail voting have pushed Democrats toward early and mail options while Republicans increasingly cluster on Election Day.

As Becker explained, “If you try to deploy troops in order to suppress voters, the most likely time people are voting would be Election Day, and you might inadvertently, if you’re a Republican president, suppress your own voters.”

The Bluster That Keeps Failing

Becker’s webinar laid out a pattern that makes the polling-place threat look like the same old noise.

The Justice Department sued 30 states and D.C. to seize sensitive voter data, and in the 23 cases decided so far, the DOJ’s record is a perfect 0-23, with eight of those losses handed down by Trump-appointed judges.

Trump’s blockbuster July 16 fraud speech landed with what Becker called “a collective yawn.” He noted that Fox News reportedly told its own network the next day, “Do not talk about the speech.”

The administration’s non-citizen claims collapsed too. Their flawed review of 128 million voter records flagged 24,000 possible non-citizens, roughly 0.01875 percent. When states demanded the underlying evidence, DHS could not produce it. Nevada’s alleged 16,000 shrank to 185 once officials pressed.

Trump’s mail-voting executive order remains blocked in federal court. Boston Judge Indira Talwani found it unconstitutional under the Massachusetts Constitution’s Article 1, Section 4 authority and statutorily illegal.

Fear Is the Whole Point

Becker suspects the vagueness is deliberate, a way to keep voters rattled without the administration ever committing to anything.

"It may very well be that there are people within the administration, and perhaps even the president himself, who would desperately love voters to be fearful that it might happen, which is why I think you see them dancing around this issue," he said, referring to the prospect of agents at the polls.

The broader strategy, he argued, runs on manufactured dread. “The freaking out, the perception of chaos and confusion and perhaps even danger, is the point,” he told his webinar audience.

Powerful people, he said, “somewhat revel when we freak out, when we do exactly what they intended.”

That is the trap. The scare campaign only works if a person flinches.

Reject the Despair

The California governor made it clear that the era of political passivity must end immediately, demanding that Democratic leaders confront the MAGA movement with unyielding scrutiny.

Newsom is establishing a standard of total accountability, insisting that the party challenge MAGA financial abuses at every level.

The Receipts of the Great Grift

Newsom laid out the staggering scale of this self-dealing empire, detailing how public policy was traded for private gain.

“I didn’t realize the scale of it,” Newsom confessed before dissecting the balance sheet. “The Qatari jet is not a free jet. It came with $934M that he took from the Sentinel program for ICBMs, and he redirected it.”

Republicans in competitive races are telling the president’s political team, in plain language, to stay away.

“We’ve told them he cannot come,” said one senior Republican working a competitive House race in a district Trump carried by double digits in 2024.

That is not a snub from some Never Trump holdout. That is a Republican in Trump country deciding the president is radioactive.

The man who spent a decade branding disloyalty as the ultimate sin is watching his own candidates treat him like a subpoena they’d rather not accept.

Trump-a-Palooza Gets the Cold Shoulder

Consider the convention. Trump wants a televised spectacle in Dallas this week, a two-day showcase inside the American Airlines Center with himself as the headliner and JD Vance as the warm-up act.

GOP insiders have a nickname for it: “Trump-a-palooza.”

A POLITICO survey of more than 70 Republican candidates and members found that most either won’t attend or can’t decide, and dozens more refused to say.

Their excuses range from the plausible to the transparent. Rep. Tom Barrett of Michigan is staying home. “I can’t control what the president’s going to say at the convention, but I can control where I’m at,” he said.

Rep. Nick LaLota of New York suddenly needs to tour colleges with his daughter. House Appropriations Chair Tom Cole has a dove hunt.

One anonymous member was blunter, calling the whole thing “a waste of time” and adding, “You shouldn’t be having to rally your base at this point. You should be trying to convince independents.”

Not in My District, Mr. President

Survival instincts on the campaign trail have completely demolished the myth of Republican unity.

Battleground candidates are quietly warning Trump’s political operation to keep the president far away from their competitive districts.

One senior Republican operative working on a competitive House race in a district Trump won by double digits in 2024 revealed the private panic, stating, “We’ve told them he cannot come.”

That same operative cautioned, “Candidly, he would not be helpful here... I do not believe they would send him without our OK. And if they did, we probably wouldn’t campaign with him.”

Top Republican pollsters are advising vulnerable incumbents to eliminate or strictly limit any direct mention of Trump in front of voters.

Representative Rob Wittman of Virginia awkwardly dodged questions about whether he wanted Trump to visit his swing district, offering evasive generalities about campaign plans instead.

Representative Mike Lawler of New York went so far as to run campaign advertisements highlighting Trump jokingly calling him “a pain in the ass” to feign independent distance.

Republicans spent years bending the knee to MAGA extremism, but they are now petrified of being photographed next to the man who leads their party.

Every road leads back to the same cliff. Republicans who embrace Trump inherit the Iran war, the price hikes, and the Epstein stench. Republicans who flee him alienate the base they need and provoke a president famous for retaliation.

One battleground House Republican candidly summarized the bind, acknowledging that guidance from operatives warns, “You’re fucked if you mention him too much, and you’re also fucked if you don’t stay in his good graces.”

That is the trap the GOP built for itself, brick by loyal brick. They made Trump the whole party. Now the whole party is underwater, and there aren’t enough lifeboats in Dallas to go around.

Donald Trump opened a trade war with Canada, expecting the country to surrender. Instead, Canada is preparing a counterattack that could hurt American manufacturers, farmers, retailers, and workers in the exact states Republicans need to hold in November.

Mark Carney’s government is matching Trump’s tariffs dollar for dollar. Ontario Premier Doug Ford is demanding even more aggressive retaliation against Republican states. Canadian officials have acknowledged that the counter-tariff strategy is designed to create political pressure inside the United States.

That pressure could determine control of the Senate.

Republicans currently hold 53 Senate seats, while Democrats and two Democratic-caucusing independents hold 47. Democrats need a net gain of four Republican-held seats to reach 51 and retake the chamber.

Canada does not need to transform the entire American electorate. It only needs to help turn enough closely contested races against Republican candidates.

Canada Chooses Its Targets

Canada’s retaliation is not random. Ottawa announced tariffs covering about $19.94 billion in Canadian imports from the U.S., including steel, aluminum, appliances, agricultural equipment, seafood, dairy, furniture, clothing, pulp, paper and electronics.

Those products are tied to specific industries and regions. They are also tied to specific voters.

Canadian Industry Minister Mélanie Joly described the strategy directly:

“When we’re looking at the countertariffs, we’re looking first at the businesses that are affected here. We’re also targeting products that will target states in the U.S., and so we’re being wise and strategic to put political pressure.”

That statement makes the political logic impossible to ignore. Canada is choosing products that can force American businesses and elected officials to feel the consequences of Trump’s policy.

Canada is the top customer for 26 U.S. states and ranks among the three largest export markets for 45 states. Maine, Michigan and Wisconsin are particularly exposed, while Ohio, Iowa, Alaska and other politically important states also depend heavily on Canadian customers, suppliers or cross-border trade.

Ford Targets the Base

Doug Ford has made the electoral dimension even more explicit.

Ford sent Carney a letter dated August 17 urging a coordinated “dollar-for-dollar, tariff-for-tariff response.” He specifically named Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Texas and Wisconsin, and wrote:

“Products from these states should face the full force of Canada’s response.”

Ford later summarized the strategy in even blunter terms:

“The red states, we’re going to hit hard.”

Ford understands that the states most loyal to Trump are also home to industries that can be hurt by Canadian retaliation. He also understands that Republican senators and House members will have to explain those costs to voters before the midterms.

Additionally, Ford has threatened to use Ontario’s electricity and critical minerals as additional leverage. Speaking to The Associated Press on August 24, he said:

“Everything’s on the table. I’ll do whatever it takes.”

He also warned, “I’ll cut them off. You won’t get a grain of sand out of Ontario,” referring to critical minerals.

Ontario supplies electricity to American states including Michigan, Minnesota and New York, giving Ford’s threats particular significance across the Great Lakes region.

Carney Builds the Pressure

Carney’s approach is less theatrical than Ford’s, but it may be more consequential.

The prime minister has given Canada’s response institutional authority while promising to match Washington’s tariffs “dollar for dollar.” He has also connected retaliation to a broader strategy of reducing Canada’s dependence on the United States through domestic investment, public procurement and new trade relationships.

Carney explained that strategy during remarks in Ottawa on August 22:

“Building at home and diversifying trade abroad is not our Plan B. It has been our Plan A from the start.”

He also said, “They asked too much and offered too little,” describing the American demands that helped derail negotiations. His message to American workers was equally pointed:

“What is the message sent out to the workers in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Alabama? These workers depend absolutely on Canada, their largest consumer.”

Carney did not need to endorse Democratic candidates to make the political implications clear. He was telling workers in Republican-leaning and competitive states that Canada is an essential customer, and Trump is putting those relationships at risk.

Buy Canadian, Not American

Carney framed the announcement as a decisive shift away from dependence on American manufacturing:

“For the first time in four decades, VIA’s passenger cars will be built in Canada. Cars once made in the United States, now made here at home.”

The project is part of Canada’s Buy Canadian policy. It should not be described as the cancellation of a newly signed American rail-car contract. The official material describes a future fleet-renewal project.

Carney still made the strategic message unmistakable:

“This means new contracts for Canadian suppliers, good jobs for Canadian workers, and paychecks that stay in Canadian cities and towns.”

Canada is showing businesses and voters that Trump’s tariffs can push Ottawa toward permanent alternatives to American suppliers.

The Senate Math Matters

The trade war’s political significance comes from the Senate map.

Democrats do not need to win every state affected by Canadian retaliation. They need four Republican-held seats while protecting their existing seats.

Republican candidates in those states now face an unpleasant choice. They can defend Trump’s tariffs and risk alienating businesses, farmers and workers, or criticize Trump and anger the MAGA voters.

Trump’s Trade War Comes Home

Canada does not need to defeat Trump at the ballot box. It only needs to make his trade war hurt in the places where Republicans are asking voters for another term.

Ford has summarized the danger to Trump more clearly than Trump seems to understand it:

“A tariff on Canada is nothing more than a tax on American people.”

The trade war was supposed to demonstrate American power. Instead, it is encouraging Canada to diversify its exports, redirect public contracts, strengthen domestic manufacturing and target the political base that helped return Trump to office.

Ford has said, “He underestimates Canada. We’re all in.” Carney has answered with tariffs, procurement and a long-term plan to reduce American leverage. Joly has acknowledged the deliberate use of political pressure. Republican candidates now have to defend the fallout.

Canada does not need to defeat Trump at the ballot box. It only needs to make his trade war hurt in the places where Republicans are asking voters for another term.

Carroll is the longtime advice columnist and writer whom Trump accused of lying after she publicly described his sexual assault of her in a Manhattan department-store dressing room in the 1990s. A federal jury in New York found Trump liable in May 2023 for sexual abuse and defamation, awarding Carroll $5 million.

Trump did what Trump does when a court rules against him. He attacked the plaintiff, attacked the verdict, filed appeals, sought rehearing, and tried to make the consequences disappear through sheer volume and repetition.

The federal courts kept saying no. The Second Circuit affirmed the $5 million verdict. The full Second Circuit refused to revisit it. The Supreme Court refused to hear Trump’s appeal in June, then refused again when he demanded a rehearing.

Pirro’s office then charged Hearn under D.C. Code Section 22-303, a felony carrying up to ten years in federal prison.

Ten years. For touching the water.

Fabricated Witnesses and Buried Photographs

Pirro’s legal team built their entire case on manufactured accusations and suppressed truth.

Prosecutors relied on two deeply questionable witnesses to implicate the retired Olympian. They used a female National Park Service employee who claimed Hearn mocked her for being “awfully sensitive about the pool,” alongside Emily Miller, a right-wing media figure who captured the arrest on video and bragged about contacting Pirro’s staff directly.

Miller is widely believed to be the unnamed civilian cited in the initial arrest affidavit.

Pirro flatly refused to place the NPS employee under oath before the grand jury. An investigating witness named M.F. presented the woman’s unsworn hearsay instead, dramatically claiming the defendant “violently ripped” the pool liner. M.F. explicitly told grand jurors this account “was not a sworn statement.”

Two crucial photographs proved the pool damage existed before Hearn ever approached the water. Hearn had posted one of those pictures publicly before charges were filed. Prosecutors omitted this exculpatory image from grand jury proceedings and deliberately excluded it from the sworn affidavit used to seize his phone.

Omitting exculpatory evidence to obtain a search warrant is not aggressive lawyering. It is a crime.

Securing a felony conviction required proving Hearn caused at least one thousand dollars in specific property damage. Pirro’s team knew from day one they lacked the evidence to prove it.

National Park Service official M.R. testified under oath that the pool was already leaking over one million gallons of water every week, that its expansion joints were long expired, and that repairs were needed regardless of anything the defendant did.

When a grand juror pressed M.R. directly to quantify damage attributable specifically to Hearn, the witness admitted he simply could not.

Pirro’s legal team called a 21-minute recess.

They pulled M.R. out of the room and into a hallway.

They coached him.

They sent him back inside.

M.R. reversed his sworn testimony and declared he could now attribute exactly one thousand dollars of damage to the accused. The prosecuting attorney then announced to the grand jury, “Hopefully that kind of nailed down that specific question,” effectively cutting off any further scrutiny from the jurors.
