Melugin’s post identified Lucas as a Democrat and a close ally of Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger. He also said federal law enforcement sources told Fox the raid was connected to a major corruption investigation.

Just as important, Melugin’s post noted that Alex Hogan was reporting from the scene.

That detail is what turned this from a standard breaking news item into a flashing red warning light. Hogan’s own X profile identifies her as a Fox News foreign correspondent based in London.

Fox somehow had her in Portsmouth at the right moment for a politically explosive FBI raid on a prominent Virginia Democrat.

Sam Stein, a veteran political journalist, immediately raised the obvious suspicion. Lucas, he noted, had also overseen successful redistricting in Virginia. That does not prove the raid was politically motivated, and it does not prove Fox received improper advance notice.

Global oil prices surged as a result of the conflict, and that made Trump radioactive for European parties already vulnerable on energy and cost-of-living politics.

Far-right leaders tied to him now risk being linked to an energy crisis unless they visibly break away. That is the sort of political math even reactionaries can do without a calculator.

Orbán was supposed to be the model, not the warning label

Trump wants you to believe he is untouchable. He has said, repeatedly and without irony, that the only thing restraining his presidency is his own “morality.”

He has threatened to redraw national borders, torch global trade agreements, and obliterate entire civilizations. He deploys the U.S. military like a personal bouncer.

International law? A suggestion.

The opinions of other nations? Adorable.

So it is almost poetic that the one force capable of making this self-styled strongman blink is a bunch of numbers on a screen.

Financial markets. The Dow Jones. The S&P 500. Ticker symbols.

That is Trump’s Achilles’ heel, according to a sharp analysis recently published by Foreign Policy.

The evidence, at this point, is not subtle.

The “TACO” Pattern

Traders and market analysts have a name for it: the TACO trade. It stands for “Trump Always Chickens Out,” and it has played out with almost comedic consistency now three times in roughly fourteen months.

First, Trump announced sweeping worldwide tariffs in April 2025. Markets cratered. Trump backed down and called it a deal.

Second, he reiterated threats to invade Greenland in January 2026. Markets reacted badly. He backed down and called that a deal too.

Then came Iran. Trump started a 40-day war against the country with, as Foreign Policy bluntly puts it, “no real provocation.”

When Iran shut down the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman through which a significant chunk of the world’s oil flows, oil prices spiked and markets plunged.

Trump had been thundering about destroying Iranian “civilization.” He then abruptly accepted terms that, by most accounts, favor Tehran, and announced a 14-day cease-fire.

The Iranian regime is still standing. Iran still controls the strait. Iran is now demanding payment for ships to pass through it. Trump called it a deal.

The Tyrant Who Answers to the Ticker

Here is the contradiction worth sitting with: Trump has built his entire political brand on the idea that he answers to no one. No courts. No allies. No norms. The strongman image is the whole product.

But every time global markets decide his bluster is bad for business, he folds. Not quietly, mind you. He folds while insisting he has won. He folds while his spokespeople scramble to reframe total capitulation as strategic genius.

The man who claims he faces no real restraint is, in practice, restrained every single time by the collective shrug of institutional investors.

Trump views the Dow and the S&P 500 as a personal report card. He has cited market indices as proof of his own greatness so many times it has become a tic. That obsession is precisely what makes markets his leash.

But hey keep calling it, and he keeps backing down.

Trump loves a signature moment. There he was, November 19, 2025, pen in hand at the White House, signing the Epstein Files Transparency Act (EFTA, H.R. 4405, Public Law No. 119-38) into law.

The crowd loved it. “Transparency,” he declared, the man who has spent a lifetime making things disappear.

The law was straightforward: the Department of Justice had 30 days to release every unclassified record in its possession related to Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and their network of powerful associates. Flight logs. Immunity deals. Internal DOJ communications.

Even documentation of Epstein’s suspicious death. All of it. By December 19, 2025.

Then Trump got to work making sure that didn’t actually happen.The scheme he cooked up is almost too brazen to believe, which, at this point, is really saying something.

Trump quietly began stacking the federal records infrastructure with a single loyalist, a man whose entire career advancement depends on keeping him out of trouble. That man is Todd Blanche, formerly Trump’s own personal criminal defense attorney.

The law is still on the books. Trump’s signature is still on it. And courts, historically, tend to care about that sort of thing.

The Nut Graph: One Lawyer to Rule Them All

Blanche is not a household name, but he should be. He is the person now positioned to decide what the American public gets to know about both Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump’s own presidency.

Blanche currently holds three overlapping roles that, taken together, give him near-total control over the federal records that matter most:

1. He has served as Trump’s personal representative to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) since September 2023, functioning as a private gatekeeper over Trump’s presidential records.
   

2. Trump dismissed Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden in May 2025 and installed Blanche as Acting Librarian, expanding his reach into federal institutional records.
   

3. Trump fired Attorney General Pam Bondi in April 2026 and made Blanche the Acting Attorney General, effective April 2, 2026, placing him directly in charge of DOJ compliance with the very Epstein transparency law Trump signed.

Meanwhile, in April 2026, the DOJ’s own Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) issued a memo declaring the Presidential Records Act of 1978, the nearly 50-year-old law requiring presidents to preserve and eventually release their official records, unconstitutional.

The memo conveniently reclassifies Trump’s presidential records as his personal property. No law, no archive, no public access.

The DOJ claims it has released over three million pages of Epstein documents. The Washington Post reports that “big questions remain unanswered,” with members of Congress still demanding explanations for missing files and contested redactions.

The Turn: “Transparency” Was Always a Costume

Here is the contradiction Trump cannot spin his way out of: he is simultaneously the man who championed Epstein transparency and the man methodically installing his former criminal defense lawyer into every institutional chokepoint that controls what gets released.

The EFTA is explicit. Redactions cannot be made on the basis of embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity. Each redaction must be justified in writing and published in the Federal Register.

The Attorney General, now Blanche, must report to Congress every category of record released or withheld, along with a list of every government official, public figure, or foreign dignitary named in the files.

Blanche cannot simply wish these requirements away. Neither can an OLC memo.

Legal scholars and watchdog groups have been unambiguous: the OLC’s opinion that the Presidential Records Act is unconstitutional is not a court ruling. It is a legal interpretation from an office that works for the executive branch, written specifically to serve the executive branch.

Federal courts have repeatedly upheld the PRA, and any serious legal challenge to the OLC memo is expected to fail. The word “likely” is doing minimal heavy lifting here.
