“Well, he can kiss my ass as far as I’m concerned. We’re going to go at him full steam, and we buy 400% more cars than anyone in the world. Maybe, maybe I have an idea.
We’ll get Danielle Smith [Premier of Alberta, Canada's primary oil and natural-gas producing province] on board so the cars that they’re manufacturing won’t be able to fill up, because we’ll be controlling the oil and the gas going down there.
And maybe what we should be doing is charging him triple on the oil, triple on the potash, on the uranium, on our metals and our rare earth metals. You know, that’s what we need to do. We need to throw everything in the kitchen sink at him.”
Ford directly addressed Trump’s aggressive negotiating style, comparing him to an insatiable bully:
“He’s arrogant. He’s cocky. And, you know, as Ronald Reagan said, if you come to a draw with a bully, what stops that bully from coming after you the next day and the next day? And that’s all Donald Trump is, is a bully.”

“I talked to the prime minister. He wasn’t against that. And I have a lot of real estate on my ass, so he has a lot of room to kiss my ass.”
Continuing, Ford directed his attention to Americans:
“There’s a lot of people in the U.S. that are calling me saying, ‘Way to go, keep going. You know, your own people, President Trump, don’t even like you. And they’re going to speak loud and clear when it comes to the midterms.
And if I was allowed to, I’d be down there door knocking. Do you think an insult from him hurts me? Well, bring it on, buddy. I’m ready. Bring it on.
You know something? I’ve dealt with guys like you my whole life. And guess what? You all become losers because you’re a loser.”
Then, he targeted Trump’s business failures:
“I don’t respond to a dictator like President Trump, a bully like President Trump. I’m not going to take any advice off a guy that is the king of bankruptcies and he is actually tariffing his own people, taxing his own people.”
The premier dismissed Trump’s attacks as typical strongman behavior while promising targeted economic retaliation against Trump’s political base:
“He’s a loser. He’s going to be a loser. He’s just a loser. And I’m not going to take the bait from him. We’re going to continue to stand up for Canadian workers, Canadian businesses and Canadian sovereignty.”

“Everything needs to be on the table. We need to use Canada’s many points of leverage to create maximum impact, targeting deep red states and making sure that America’s economy feels the pain.
And make no mistake, Americans are already feeling the pain. Canada did not start this fight, but we’re prepared to win it. As for the electricity, everything’s on the table. Critical minerals, everything’s on the table.”

Um. Just wanted to point out. Canadian here. Trump is not just embarking on an illegal trade war with Canada. He is trying to make us a vassal state. I hope Americans understand this. We have CUSMA. Or USMCA, as you call it, a lot harder to pronounce. It is still in force. Trump’s tariffs are illegal.
The concessions he is demanding are not congruent with Canada remaining a sovereign country. We have a right to our bilingual culture, a right to our own resources, a right to create our own alliances— to be maitres chez nous. Masters in our own house.
This is not just about trade. This is first and foremost about dominance. Trump’s frequent remarks about a 51st state are signals. We Canadians hear them clearly even though, apparently, his own citizens do not. We are outraged.
And we do wonder: where is your Congress? Along with the rest of the democratic world, we simply cannot fathom how your president can single-handedly declare war on Iran, economic war on Canada, threaten Greenland (you do know that, right, Greenland is still threatened) without any permission at all from the elected representatives of your citizenry.
Finally. This is just me, I’m not sure how many other Canadians are reflecting on this question: you are the ones who said no taxation without representation. You are ones who dumped all that tea into Boston harbour. You are the ones who are proud of your revolution against an entitled and apparently uncaring king.
Where is your revolution now?
Hear, hear. Of all the stupid things Trump wrought, attacking Canada has to be high on that list. There is no cogent endgame here, just a chest pounding bully about to get put on his Ass.
