The question every liberal and progressive is afraid to ask out loud? What a weird clickbait sub headline to write. Nowhere in your otherwise excellent post about Ken Burns reply to a question is there evidence liberals and progressives are not optimistic about the survival of the US democratic republic. Maybe a few are not, but so are a few conservatives pessimistic.
Thank you for this. I would only add World War I with its horrors and the following Great Depression with its Stock Market Crash and all the rest. And we did survive with a New Deal and the institutions of Social Security and the GI Bill and taxes and new roads and new houses and all the rest.

I would challenge that every liberal and progressive IS asking about this very loudly. How can anyone miss that?
