Letitia James Just Humiliated Trump - Again!
School's in Session and Trump Is the Class Dunce
New York Attorney General Letitia James is on a legal hot streak, racking up courtroom wins while Donald Trump keeps stumbling into one public humiliation after another at her hands.
In her latest round of victories, James restored AmeriCorps funding nationwide and helped deliver a federal appeals court smackdown to Trump’s global tariffs.
If you’re keeping score, that’s her third recent win for the rule of law—and another loss for the “I alone can fix it” crowd.
🔥 Want to see powerful people get cut down to size? Stick around—this is where humiliation goes viral.
Trump’s Tariffs: Court to Trump—You Can’t Just Make Up the Rules
On August 29, a federal appeals court delivered a body blow to Trump’s trade agenda, ruling that most of his “so-called reciprocal tariffs—imposed on nearly every country the US trades with—are being illegally imposed.”
Translation: you can’t just declare a national emergency every time you want to slap a new tax on imports.
Letitia James, leading a coalition of 11 states and five small businesses, argued that the president “lacks statutory authority to impose the tariffs” and “has no such power under IEEPA to unilaterally raise taxes.”
The court agreed, reminding everyone that Congress—not the guy with the gold-plated toilet—gets to “lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises.”
James didn’t hold back: “The law is clear: no president has the power to single-handedly raise taxes whenever they like.”
She called the decision “a major victory for our efforts to uphold the law and protect New Yorkers from illegal policies that threaten American jobs and economy.”
The impact was immediate: U.S. equity futures jumped more than two percent within minutes of the ruling.
Trump, naturally, called the court “highly partisan” and the ruling a “disaster.” He warned, “If allowed to stand, this Decision would literally destroy the United States of America.” (Relax, Don. The only thing destroyed here is your legal theory and fragile ego.)
James, meanwhile, was unfazed: “We will never stop fighting to protect people and their wallets.” The case is likely headed to the Supreme Court, but for now, Trump’s tariffs are toast.
AmeriCorps: Saved from the Chopping Block
While Trump was busy losing in court, Letitia James was busy saving AmeriCorps. She led a coalition of 24 states to court after the administration tried to cancel approximately 80 percent of the federal agency’s grants and began placing hundreds of staff on administrative leave.
In June, the Trump administration lost the case, and instead of meeting the August 28 filing deadline to keep fighting, they backed down and released “over $184 million in funding,” including $14.7 million for New York alone.
That means “volunteers and staff will be paid for this year’s projects and work will continue into the next federal fiscal year.”
James called it “an important victory for the dedicated AmeriCorps volunteers across the country and the communities they serve each and every day.”
Translation: nice try, but not today. Trump blinked, James won, and AmeriCorps lives to serve another day.
Trump’s Fraud: Liability Upheld, But the Check Shrinks
And then there’s the civil fraud case. Remember when Judge Arthur Engoron found Trump liable for “persistent and repeated fraud” and ordered him to pay $355 million (which ballooned to over $500 million with interest)?
Well, an appeals court recently tossed out the massive fine, calling it “excessive and probably” unconstitutional.
But don’t pop the champagne just yet, Mar-a-Lago: the court upheld the finding that Trump, his company, and two of his kids are liable for fraud.
Plus, Trump is still banned from serving as a company director or taking out loans from New York banks for three years.
James’s office was blunt: “It should not be lost to history: yet another court has ruled that the president violated the law, and that our case has merit.” The fight over the fine isn’t over, either—the AG’s office is appealing to the state’s highest court.
The Relentless Defender
Letitia James’s string of legal wins is more than just a personal victory lap—it’s a masterclass in how state attorneys general can check executive power and protect public institutions.
Whether it’s restoring AmeriCorps funding, blocking illegal tariffs, defending scientific research, or holding Trump accountable for fraud, James is proving that “no one is above the law—not even a former president.”
Trump, of course, calls it all a “politically motivated witch hunt” and has even tried to sue James in retaliation.
But she’s not backing down: “We will never stop fighting to protect people and their wallets.”
In a political landscape where the rule of law is constantly stress-tested, James is showing what it looks like to fight—and win.
