Rubio Picked the Wrong Hill to Nap On

Secretary of State Marco Rubio decided to gamble his remaining shred of credibility on a blatant falsehood this Wednesday.

He stood before the House Foreign Affairs Committee and insisted he had never once witnessed Trump falling asleep during a meeting.

Democratic Representative Ted Lieu was not about to let this performative ignorance slide. He immediately pushed back against the bizarre denial.

A Pathetic Performance

Rubio clearly prepared a script for this moment. He claimed he had never seen the president sleep, then pivoted to a strange anecdote about Trump calling him at two or five in the morning. Rubio tried to paint this as proof of a high energy lifestyle.

Lieu had no patience for the rambling. He stopped the secretary mid-sentence to set the record straight. “Secretary Rubio, I’m going to show you in a moment a video that shows you just lied to Congress,” Lieu declared.

The room shifted as a clip played showing a Cabinet meeting from May. Trump was clearly dozing off right beside Rubio while the business of the country was being discussed.

Ignoring The Obvious

“You are literally talking about issues of war and peace, and Donald Trump is sleeping right next to you,” Lieu said as the footage rolled.

He pointed out that if the president cannot keep his eyes open while cameras are recording his every move, the situation is likely much worse behind closed doors.

Rubio refused to accept the evidence. He doubled down and insisted Trump wasn’t sleeping.

Lieu did not blink. He hit back hard and told the secretary he was lying consistently to the American people.

To ensure the point landed, Lieu presented two additional videos of Trump drifting off, including a particularly disrespectful instance during a recent Memorial Day event honoring fallen soldiers.

The Sycophant Strategy

The questioning turned into a full indictment of the administration’s culture. Lieu criticized the Cabinet for holding meetings that resemble displays of devotion rather than actual government functions.

He told Rubio, “Instead of holding North Korean–style Cabinet meetings where everyone goes around the room kissing Donald Trump’s ass, I’m gonna ask you to come clean with the American people and the White House, as well”.

Rubio retreated into the usual defensive posture. He labeled the questioning absurd and predictably launched an attack on President Biden to deflect from the evidence.

His attempt to play the loyal soldier failed completely because the camera footage offered a far more honest account than his own mouth.

Everyone watching knows exactly what they saw, and Rubio’s hollow defense only highlighted his role as a desperate protector for a man who is clearly struggling.
