Thanksgiving week has been an absolute disaster for Donald Trump. It started with federal judges dismantling his “retribution” agenda by tossing out the indictments against James Comey and Letitia James, effectively humiliating his Justice Department.
Then, another judge blocked his attempt to deploy the National Guard to Memphis, stripping away his “tough guy” image.
Just when it seemed like the humiliations couldn’t pile any higher, a handwritten note from a jail cell arrived to cap off the week.
Ryan Wesley Routh, the man who tried to assassinate Trump at his golf course, has decided to kick the diapered Don while he is down.
“Don’t Be a Coward”
Routh filed a motion this week that reads less like a legal document and more like a playground challenge. He explicitly invited Trump to show up at the courthouse, not to testify, but to physically fight him.
The motion includes an “open invitation” for Trump to “punch him in the face, as many times” as he wants. Routh even taunted the President by saying, “Don’t be a p****. (Can I say p**** or coward—sorry).”
He didn’t stop there. The filing suggests that if Trump wants to “pummel the defendant just for good measure,” he should “put on the handcuffs and shackles and give it your worst.”
Routh also sarcastically offered an “open microphone” because he is sure the jury “would love to hear [Trump’s] thoughts.” It is a bold move for a “wannabe” assassin who never actually fired a shot, yet here he is, baiting the Leader of the Free World into a brawl.
The Blame Game Backfires
This taunt lands right as the administration is reeling from a massive self-inflicted wound involving national security. Two National Guard members were shot in Washington, D.C. this week by Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national. (Sadly, recent news reports indicated that one of them died.)
Trump and his allies immediately tried to score political points, loudly blaming the Biden administration for letting the shooter into the country back in 2021.
The narrative collapsed almost instantly. It turns out that while Lakanwal entered under Biden, Trump officials approved his asylum request in April.
The very administration claiming to be the ultimate guardian of the border gave this “savage monster” the green light to stay permanently.
It is a perfect microcosm of Trump’s terrible week: he tried to project strength and assign blame, only to have the facts - and now a prisoner with a pen - laugh right in his face.

The Final Humiliation
Trump wanted this week to be a display of imperial power. He wanted his enemies prosecuted and his military deployed.
Instead, he got checkmated by the courts, embarrassed by his own immigration vetters, and trolled by a guy in an orange jumpsuit.
Routh’s offer of an “open microphone” might be the only invitation Trump refuses this week, because he appears to have lost control of the conversation - for the umpteenth time the last few weeks.

No surprise here. Trump has been a royal f’up his entire life.
