War Crimes and Nap Times: Inside the Collapsing Trump Regime
The Paradox of a Failing Regime and a Rising Democracy
The facade of strength projected by the Trump administration is rapidly disintegrating. American democracy is not dying in darkness in late 2025; it is witnessing the real-time implosion of an executive branch defined by incompetence, criminality, and cognitive decline.
The authoritarian takeover many feared is failing because the regime lacks the internal discipline to sustain it. We are watching a presidency that is “crashing in on itself” rather than consolidating power.
A Cabinet of Incompetence and Decay
The executive branch has become what Heather Cox Richardson, a professor of history at Boston College, describes as a “stew” of competency and legality issues.
The administration has been forced to pull 57 appointees because they could not pass basic vetting procedures. Even Republican allies like Senator John Kennedy have complained that the White House is “not even vetting these people.”
Corruption scandals are erupting with frequency. The Department of Homeland Security is embroiled in a controversy involving $220 million funneled to contractors with personal connections to administration advisors.
Meanwhile, the FBI leadership is described by insiders as having “no concept of what they are doing.”
This administrative chaos prevents the regime from effectively executing its agenda, leaving it vulnerable to legal and political counterattacks.
The Political Realignment and Midterm Hope
Voters are already rejecting this chaotic governance. A profound political realignment is underway, driven by a rejection of the “Epstein Class” - the wealthy elite who operate with impunity.
This shift is visible in deep-red districts. Recent new reports highlight the special election in Tennessee where a Democratic candidate lost by only 9 points in a district Trump won by 22 just a year prior. This 13 point swing suggests that the MAGA coalition is fracturing.
Democrats are poised to sweep the 2026 midterm elections if these trends continue.
Gaining control of Congress would effectively neutralize the Trump presidency. A hostile legislature could launch unrestricted investigations into the “double tap” war crimes, block the legislative agenda, and potentially secure a third impeachment.
The “floor” of Trump’s support has dropped to the mid-30s, leaving him without the popular mandate necessary to survive such a political correction.

Trump’s Cognitive Collapse
The most visible sign of the regime’s fragility is the condition of the “diapered Don” himself. Trump is exhibiting undeniable signs of physical and mental deterioration.
During a recent televised cabinet meeting intended to showcase his authority, Trump couldn’t stay awake as his cabinet members praised him.
This lethargy is contrasted by “manic” behavior during the night, where he posts hundreds of times on social media in a way that observers find “bonkers.”
The White House is actively engaged in a medical cover-up. Following a medical event in October, the administration released a memo citing “imaging” results but refused to specify that Trump underwent an MRI for his brain.
Trump himself admitted he “aced the cognitive test,” seemingly unaware that such tests are designed to detect dementia. In fact, he’s repeated confused them with an IQ test.
A leader who cannot stay awake and requires constant cognitive screening is not a strongman capable of ending American democracy; he is a liability to his own movement.
The Geopolitical Puppet Master
Foreign adversaries are exploiting this domestic chaos. Fiona Hill, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and former presidential advisor, warns that we are witnessing the “end of the western era” due to the administration’s weakness.
Trump’s worldview is transactional and easily manipulated by autocrats like Vladimir Putin.
Hill describes the dynamic between Trump and Putin as a “man crush,” explaining that Trump envies Putin’s “bling” and unchecked power.
Putin openly mocks the President to his face. Hill recounts a meeting at the G20 in Osaka where Putin, preying on Trump’s narcissism, suggested: “Well maybe they should just name the country after you,” referring to Israel.
Hill notes that she “almost like died laughing” because Putin was clearly “taking the mickey” out of Trump.
Trump, however, took the suggestion seriously, replying, “Oh no, that would be a bit too much.”
This gullibility allows Russia to manipulate U.S. policy without resistance. Putin has “got his number,” and the United States is losing its global standing as a result.
The War Crimes Scandal
Illegal military orders have shattered the administration’s credibility with the armed forces. New reports have exploded for days about a horrific incident that took place on September 2, 2025, involving a “double tap” strike on a small boat off the coast of Venezuela.
The initial strike disabled the vessel, leaving two survivors clinging to the wreckage. Under the Laws of Armed Conflict, these individuals were hors de combat and entitled to protection.
The administration instead ordered a second strike to kill them, followed by additional strikes to destroy the evidence. Richardson notes that Senator Angus King has correctly identified this act as “murder.”
Pete Hegseth, the administration’s figurehead for “cowboy masculinity,” is directly implicated in this atrocity. Reporting indicates that Hegseth told Admiral Mitch Bradley to “leave no one alive” and to “kill everybody.”
The subsequent attempt by Hegseth to throw Admiral Bradley “absolutely under the bus” has alienated the military establishment and triggered a revolt among institutionalists in the Senate.
This betrayal of the chain of command exposes a regime that is dangerous but also deeply fractured and undisciplined.
Conclusion: Time is on Our Side
The collapse of the Trump regime is already in motion. The combination of “stupidity,” cognitive decline, and criminal overreach is dismantling the administration from the inside out.
American democracy will survive because the would-be authoritarians are too incompetent to kill it. The path forward requires citizens to recognize their own agency and push for a definitive rebuke in the midterms.
As Richardson concludes, “time and the ravages of age and of stupidity are on the side of American democracy right now.”

This is an excellent review of a set of truisms that have been with us since the first time Donald Trump ran for president.
Not one person who was paying attention, was expecting anything different from a man who does business by filing bankruptcies and cheating people out of their hard earned money. It was all there to be seen in the light of day and the darkest hours of the night. I still can’t imagine why anyone had faith in such a person.
And please explain to me why people are constantly comparing Donald Trump to Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Both of these men came to the office of president with qualifications both of them had years of experience. Both of them are deeply concerned about issues that are important to the American people .
Trump came to the office of president with absolutely no qualifications at all. Even if you could buy the idea that he was a good businessman, which I never did, it was rapidly evident that you cannot run a country the way you run a dishonest business.
What I would have liked to see in this report is an acknowledgment for the American people. We have been cheated and terrorized. We have been humiliated over and over again. Our military has been disrespected and forced to participate in criminal acts.
But the American people have not given up and have not lost faith. The protests have grown. The boycotts continue. Republicans are reading the room and many are acknowledging the truth. The military and even the Supreme Court are helping to turn the tide.
The American people do not want fascism. Most of us don’t want racism. And Donald Trump is the poster boy for both of those philosophies. Racism and fascism are ignorant ideas. And Donald Trump is also the poster boy for ignorance.
I think it’s safe to say that most of us don’t want Donald Trump, and that has something to do with the crumbling of his dynasty.
Absolute perfect review.
