Charlie strutted into Cambridge like a peacock, but Tilly Middlehurst plucked every feather and left him squawking about prostates. The man’s whole playbook is a Mad Lib of misogyny: insert ‘unhappiness,’ sprinkle in ‘God made roles,’ then yell ‘gotcha’ questions until the crowd forgets he has no argument. Tilly didn’t just beat him, she ran a clinic on how to treat bluster like a leaky faucet—tighten it with facts until the drip stops. Blessed be the undergrads who remind us that truth doesn’t need tenure to humiliate propaganda.

I move that rather than place statue of Kirk in the Capitol, we erect a statue of this brilliant and gutsy young lady. She rates right up there with Greta Thunberg IMO.

And on any measurable scale I think they would admit to being quite happy and fulfilled personally even as they are very unhappy with the state of our world.

Steve Doll's avatar

Wow! That describes me as well, because only a whole person who's happy within themselves cares enough to want to see the rest of the world as happy as they are, a ND to work to eradicate the sources of unhappiness.

No. You didn't imagine that comment.

He debated college kids because he assumed they’d be below his level of knowledge of topics. I saw how he said he wished not to be interrupted yet he continually interrupted to throw people off of their train of thought. I was impressed by Tilly’s speed of thoughts and speech, which didn’t allow him to interrupt as easily. She was SHARP and he knew it, hence the ridiculous unrelated questions, what is a woman, do women have prostates. His rhetoric was dangerous because his slick talk drew in weak minds and impressed people who couldn’t keep up with his fast talk and blatant lies.

She probably looked up his tactics to prepare herself beforehand, because yeah, fuck this guy.

Oh wait, I mean, bless this poor departed soul, and fuck him too.

I was never made by God to have children. The thought of having children scared the shit out of me!!! I knew that if I had children it would interfere with me be being the best that I could be. I never met any men who would have been an equal partner with me in the raising of said imaginary children. So I never married nor did I have children. I became an outstanding professional women and have never regretted it!!! I have supported my girlfriends in their desire to have children even babysitting for my friends when they were in a pinch so I think my societal obligations to the world at large have been satisfied!

Steve Doll's avatar

You had NO societal obligation to add more consumers to an already overpopulated world. You are to be congratulated.

He was a TRUMP supporter. Thsat's where his money and his way of talking came from. He was not a hero. He was in it for the money!

I was listening to someone talk about how we should all be vegan, because consuming animals is destroying the planet.

What if humans just stop breeding so much.

That would help the planet.

When thinking about this, I realized it is patriarchy that pushes excessive breeding.

The planet already has way too many humans.

Janet's avatar

You are so right. Heck, Elon Chainsaw Musk has 14 children? with a tribe of wives and seems to want to share his seed with anyone who will take it. The right is constantly pushing having babies. JD Vance is one of the greatest pushers. We do have too many people and way too many unwanted and abused children. I agree that it’s all about control and increasing their numbers. “Barefoot and pregnant.”

Janet's avatar

Musk is a lousy example for the white Christian nationalists. Multiple divorces and children out of wedlock doesn’t match biblically.

E. A.'s avatar

Amy Coney Barrett has 7 children.

Two are adopted.

Janet's avatar

You might read Diet For a Small Planet (1971) by Frances Moore Lappe’. So very relevant today. 🩵

E. A.'s avatar

Patriarchy pushes people to breed, because they want to raise hoards of children up with their chosen religious beliefs, and because it enlarges their group of people to fight for control.

There are way too many people on the planet.

The whole get married and live happily ever after stories are a lie, and populations just keep growing.

We need to normalize not having children.

There are plenty of children on the planet, that do not get adequate care.

Childless people could help those children, as long as they are not pedophiles.

Aquarius Cat's avatar

If most of his audience in Utah, were Brigham Young followers, we know their beliefs of raising children with multiple wives grew their religion. Along side of patriarchy, misogamy where women are definite chattel, not too many generations back. Thanks Tilly, because of smart women like you, I can own a home myself, own stock, own a checkbook, have my own credit card….and still love men, not need them. I always wonder before the 20th Century, was the fear of independent women for men to believe they wouldn’t be loved?

E. A.'s avatar

Strong independent woman only intimidate terrified, damaged males.

Patriarchy harms all people.

I think it feeds into their White Savior Complex.

I think more people should talk about how strange it is that a 31 year old adult male continually goes to hang out on college campuses.

"You know what I love about debating college kids, I keep getting older and they stay the same age." -read in the voice of Matthew McConaughey 😹

Music.cheryl@gmail.com's avatar

He used college kids as pawns to be overpowered. Someone got fed up with that.

I wonder how many other times this happened and nobody noticed.

John's avatar

Not many. Most every video you can find of his "debates" was put out by his own operation. He "debated" mostly in safe spaces, like state colleges in Orem, Utah. Even his forays to "liberal" universities attracted mostly fans.

SJ Keisha Yi's avatar

His debates with Dean and Parker are phenomenal- they wiped the floor with him and he refused to debate them again 🤣

Have you watched the whole Cambridge Union video? Or the last third or so - the debate bit?

They were more than fair in letting him babble for an hour.

HorseLaugher's avatar

A woman cannot have a prostate…is that ok?

Jacobs-Meadway Roberta's avatar

Is it okay for what? Some men, particularly those in the GOP congressional delegations clearly have no balls. The MAGA types seem to be concerned to the point of obsession with what are politely termed the private parts of others. The private part seems to escape them and that is just … sad to the extent it is not weird.

HorseLaugher's avatar

Well, if a person is delusional about basic things…things that are irrefutable…not just about gender…but really any basic fact…how can they be taken seriously on any topic? So, when I hear a person say a woman can have a prostate or a man can give birth…I don’t want that person making any decisions at all that can affect me or my community.

Jacobs-Meadway Roberta's avatar

And who said anything about a prostate? You are the one who brought it up as a cheap and obvious diversion. Don’t want someone making decisions in your community? Don’t vote for them. If someone’s religious beliefs offend you, don’t parrot them. If someone’s dress doesn’t please you, don’t wear the same thing. If you want to swallow swill, go to it. Just don’t interfere with what is none of your flipping business.

HorseLaugher's avatar

The entire premise of the article was a female…declared herself a feminist. Charlie Kirk asked her what a woman was. She failed to Answer. Then the article declared her the winner of the debate . Charlie asked if a woman could have a prostate…again the debater failed to answer and Charlie won the debate.

To prove I read the article I said a woman cannot have a prostate. You have become triggered and apoplectic. Not my fault. Take my advice….ruh-lahhhxxx.

Jacobs-Meadway Roberta's avatar

If anyone is “apoplectic”, it is you. You seem unable to move on from your BS or to respond to the issue. Kirk “won” nothing but the applause of the folks such as you who think the question is in any way relevant.

Kirk was extremely confident in his own stupidity. It’s an American affliction common to right wing extremists. An enema full of civility and knowledge would improve the condition.

Chris's avatar

“Kirk was extremely confident in his own stupidity” this is not specific to right wing Americans - this is by and large an all American trait!
