This president is systematically degrading both the soft power of the United States (through our retreat from global aid, participation in climate and global health initiatives, and more, which kept China and Russia at bay in developing nations) and the hard power of our former military/superpower strength. He is handing the keys to power over to the world's worst actors for filthy lucre for himself and his oligarchs at the expense of all of us, and to this nation's detriment (and to our great shame).
I have tried over the last decade to understand how MAGA can claim to have boosted "American exceptional ism" through the elevation of That Man as he systematically disassembles it, and I keep coming back to the same conclusion: to them, the creation of a white, Christian ethnostate is "American exceptional ism" even if we hold zero power on the world stage, even if we have the worst health care system, education system, the filthiest water and the most infectious diseases. The pathology is that deep and that narrow. And they all vote in lock step.
One wonders if there's any way back from this catastrophe in the Middle East after (providing the rest of us vote in not just November, but every election going forward), but we had better try. And after we secure multiple rounds of electoral majorities we had better codify legislation that greatly limits executive authority, to prevent future, more intelligent and organized authoritarians from doing even more damage.
